Step 1: Confirm that stainless steel is the right material

In the company's Bolt product description, bolts are made from a range of materials: carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy steel and brass. The description says you choose among them based on what the application needs, such as corrosion resistance, conductivity or impact strength. It describes stainless steel bolts as highly resistant to rust and corrosion and suitable for outdoor and marine applications. The Threaded Bolt description likewise names outdoor, marine and high-moisture environments as typical uses for its stainless steel versions.

If corrosion resistance is not the main requirement, a different material or finish may fit better. Settle this first. Otherwise, you may end up comparing prices for parts that won't do the job.

Step 2: Choose the bolt type for the joint

The published product range covers several bolt designs:

• Bolt (general range): listed as hex bolt, hexagon socket bolt, hex bolt with flange and countersunk bolts. These are typically installed and removed with a wrench or socket, which helps with maintenance and repair.
• Threaded Bolt: the thread runs along the whole rod. These are typically used to secure structures to walls and ceilings, and for hanging, connecting, clamping and supporting in electrical, heating and plumbing work. They are offered in carbon steel, stainless steel and alloy steel.
• HEX BOLT: listed as made to DIN931 (partially threaded), DIN933 (fully threaded), ANSI and BSW.
• HEX FLANGE BOLT: combines a hex bolt and a washer in one part. The flange spreads the clamping force and reduces the risk of damaging the connected surface. Some versions have a serrated flange to help prevent loosening caused by vibration.

Step 3: Specify the standard, size and grade

The published specifications for the HEX BOLT and HEX FLANGE BOLT give the main details a quote request needs:

The source materials don't say which of these grades come in stainless steel. If you need stainless HEX BOLTS or HEX FLANGE BOLTS, name the stainless material and the required property class in your request, and ask the supplier to confirm. The HEX FLANGE BOLT description says special sizes, materials and surface finishes can be customized for specific projects.

According to the HEX BOLT description, lower grades suit general-purpose fastening. Higher grades such as 8.8, 10.9, 12.9 and Grade 8 are meant for critical applications that need higher tensile strength. Your project engineer should choose the grade from the actual load. A product page can't make that decision.

Step 4: Decide on the finish, or none

The published finish options include zinc plating (white, blue and yellow), black oxide, hot-dip galvanizing (HDG), Dacromet and plain. The HEX FLANGE BOLT description suggests HDG and Dacromet for outdoor or highly corrosive environments, and black oxide for indoor use where appearance and cost efficiency matter. With stainless steel, decide whether you need any coating at all, and state the choice clearly in your request.

When this guidance does not apply

• You need a published price list or confirmed lead time. Contact the supplier directly.
• You need specific certifications or test reports. Request and check them separately.
• Your design is outside the published ranges. For example, a flange bolt larger than M20 or 1" is outside the listed HEX FLANGE BOLT sizes, so confirm customization before you assume it's available.

A quick checklist for comparing quotes

Before you compare any ss bolt price, check that each quote states the same:

1. Material (stainless steel, or another grade you specified)
2. Bolt type (hex, socket, flange, countersunk or fully threaded)
3. Standard (DIN, ANSI or BSW)
4. Diameter, length and thread type (fine or coarse)
5. Strength grade or property class
6. Surface finish, or plain
7. Quantity and any custom requirements

A complete specification gives bolts and nuts suppliers what they need to quote accurately, and lets you compare offers on equal terms.
